As the majority of chemistry students know, ionic compounds (those combining metal and non-metal elements) have immensely high melting and boiling points.

The funny thing about these substances is that they cannot conduct electricity in the solid form, but they can do so in their molten states.

Which leads me to the next question: which crazy scientist decided to blast an ionic substance with intense heat, let it melt, and later insert wires to test whether it could light up a bulb?
